Day 6 : 25 July 1989, Excursion: Ridonjira
We wake up at eight. We see a problem, in the west is it raining, in the east is it sunshine. What to do? We start with breakfast hoping that the weather meanwhile will decide for us. Then we go to the ticket office to arrange our return tickets back home. The ticket office has been moved from the small railway station to Keron, since it did not fullfill safety at work. The weather has not yet decided on what to do, we have to decide ourselves. We decide that the rain will stay away from us. We make coffee and sandwiches, and start our excursion. We cross the road, walk beneatch the railway, and then follow Kungsleden through the forest a few hundred meters, to the place where there is a bridge across Abiskojåkkå. The river is violent today. On the other side are many tracks, of which one follow the brook Ridonjira from Njulla . The first part is up through the birch forest. A small bird join us, it walks and flies in front us. Stopping, waiting for us, and then flies in advance again. As if it wants to make sure that we do not get lost. We proceed in a line, the three of us, with the bird in the front. This continue until we reach the altitude where the birch forest give up, and where here is a small beautiful waterfall. Where the water start to fall is a small plateau, from which it is a magnificient view of the brook, the forest, Torne Träsk, Lapporten - all of it. The bird leave us, thank you for the help.

The sun is fighting well against the rain in the west, it shine on and warm us. We drink of the cold water from the brook. Refreshed do we continue. Further up do we cross the brook, not ford, we walk on stones to the other side. Here we must halt again. The most flowery meadow meet us. It is green, yellow, blue and red. All colours are mixed. A chair lift pass above our heads. We have to force, after a long but too short time, ourself to continue, else we could stay here all day in the sunshine. But we have another task as well, and that is to find the origin of the brook. Now it becomes steep again, and it continue to be steep up to the end station of the chair lift. But it is still an easy walk. It becomes colder, we encounter a strong contrary wind, and the clouds is making a counterattack. We follow the brook, after a while does it end in a small pond inbetween the peaks of Njulla and Slåttatjåkka.  The pond is supplied with water from a few melting snowfields. We are now at an altitude of 1000 meters, 650 meter above our starting point. We have found the origin.

The snow cool the air, it is chilly. We find a shelter against the wind behind a small hill, where we can enjoy our late lunch. Even at this altitude is the fauna rich, though the dimesnions are much reduced. We take it easy, and admire the view in front of us, before we slowly walking back to the chair lift.  In the chair lift station is the cafe open, and we have our after lunch coffee. We do not feel for walking back, but let the chair lift transport us down in a few minutes.

In the evening, when we have the traditional glass of wine and cheese at the tourist station, do we among the other guests recognize a famous swedish photographer. We hope that our pictures will make our day justice.
