Nothing is better than a book and a map to plan a tour. Lean back in the armchair with the book and the map, and dream and plan. The ideal way to plan the tour. The web is a complement and a place to find the latest information and the experience of others. Here I have collected the books that I have in my "hiking library" about Sarek, though I have not read them in detail. They are all in swedish.

Edvin Nilsson, Sarek.  (1970)
This is the book that started my interest in hiking. It has many nice photos, and gives a personal view of Sarek. Not that informative about where and how to hike.

Axel Hamberg, Sarekfjällen (facsimile 1982, the original is from 1922).
"A guide to tours in the mountains between the Source-Streams of Lule älv."
The handbook written by the scientist who made Sarek his research field around 1900.

Svante Lundgren, Vandra i Sarek. (1979)
A book with information needed to plan a hike.

Claes Grundsten, Vandra Kungsleden 2. (1991)
The best description. Though the title say Kungsleden, is it a book including the surroundings around Kungsleden, with tour descriptions in Sarek, Padjelanta.. As such outstanding. The author is, at least in Sweden, a famous photographer.

Karlsson/Falck, Padjelantaleden.  (1991)
A small book about the Padjelantatrail.

Tore Abrahamsson, Okända fjäll (1992)
A book the describes many not so well known mountain areas in Sweden, e.g. Gallaktjåhkkå in Stora Sjöfallet national park.

Tore Abrahamsson, Detta är Sarek.  (1993)
A book with information needed to plan a hike.

Peter Larsson, Dagboksblad från resor i Sverige (1998)
The author is a painter, and the book is a diary from jurneys in Sweden, illustrated with his own paintings. One jurney was to Skierfe.

Hans Andersson, Olavi Korhonen, Vad betyder namnen? (2000)
the meaning of the names on the map

Länsstyrelsen i Norrbotten has produced the small book, Laponia (2001)
This book do also exist in english. It gives an overview of and an introduction to the world heritage area Laponia

The map Fjällkartan BD10  : Sarek National Park, cover most of the area. Kallaktjåkkå is on map BD7  : Sitasjaure - Ritsem. The western part of Padjelanta is on map BD9 : Padjelanta - Sulitjelma. Those are the maps I'm using. They can be bought, among many other places, on the web from the producer Lantmäteriverket.
