Overview
Österlen

The track starts at the railway station in Ystad, continues on a pedestrian bridge over railway, and along a road in the harbour. After the harbour does it follow the sea on a pedestrian and bicycle road. After a while do one pass the conference center Saltsjöbaden. Here are many beaches which invites to take a bath. Unfortunately do the sea take much of the shore every year, the erosion is severe in many places, though it is not yet visible since most of the sand that is transported away is in the sea. The road goes between the forest (Sandskogen) and the beaches. Youth hostel and camping place exist, as well as cafee and restaurants. Before Nybrostrand do one have to walk on the main road, in order to cross a river. Nybrostrand have a camping place, east of the village is a military shooting exercise field, which might prevent you from walking on the beach. If it is closed, one must walk on the road. Read the signs, and look for the red flag. If you walk along the beach, do it on your own risk and do no touch any ammunition you find. This is what the sign is saying. The road is rather boring.

At Hammar do one walk up on the ridge, which is a pasture land and gives an easy walk and nice views. The slope down to the beach is steep. At Kåseberga are the famous Ale stenar, an ancient stone arrangement (stone ship) with many interpretations, people quarrel about which interpretation that is correct. What one do not quarrel about is that the fish one can buy in the harbour is excellent. After the village do one follow the stony (small ones) beach beneath steep slopes, to Löderup strandbad. The erosion at Löderup strandbad is severe as well. After Löderup strandbad do one pass Backåkra, the house once owned by Dag Hammarskjöld, now a museum. Outside, with the view out over of the sea, is a meditation place. The trail from here to Sandhammaren is through a forest. The sand transported from Ystad and Löderup strandbad is deposited at Sandhammaren.

In Simrishamn do one pass the square in the harbour and continue on a bicycle road along the sea. Here are beaches and a camping site. One walk on the beach or on good tracks, through forests and more open areas, a short distance from the shore. The coastline partly consists of rocks, e.g. Vårhallarna north of Simrishamn and "the priests bath" at Vik.

From Vik do one walk close to the sea, on small stones shaped by the waves. This one do up to Knäbäckshus, an old village that was moved since the original place was to be used for military purposes. From there to Stenshuvud is a long beach. Stenshuvud is a national park, and a small hill (97 m) with views over the surroundings. The best view is from the north head. The remaining part to Kivik is on a road, surrounded with apple trees. This is the region of apples. South of Kivik, give the 3000 year old tomb a visit.
