The lodging I know of are the
mountain stations Sylarna, Blåhammaren, and Storulvån.
These have I stayed at. There is one in Norway, Nedalshytta, which I
have passed on my way but have no memory of.
Vålådalen is in Sweden a well know place, here did (do?)
the swedish skiers have their training camp. Here is also a mountain
station. The stations do as far as I know, hot and cold water, shower,
sauna, and indoor toilets.
Many hiking and skiing tracks start/end in Vålådalen. To
Vålådalen do one get by taking the train to
Undersåker, from there is a ocal bus to Vålådalen. I
have not been in Vålådalen myself. Blåhammaren can be
reached by foot only. This is a small station, but nice. It has a
restaurant with a good reputation. When I stayed there in 1992 was the
food excellent. Even more distant (16 km from nearest road) is Sylarna
mountain staion, at the mountain Sylarna itself. There is no
restaurant, but a self-service kitchen, and a shop with rudimentary
supplies. Storulvån is at the end of the road. There is a taxi
with connection to the train in Enafors. Storulvån has a good
restaurant, at least in 1999 when I had dinner there.
Other lodgings exist in Storlien (e.g. Högfjällshotellet) and
in Enafors (e.g. Jämtlandia). On tracks are many mountain cabins,
where the standard is much simpler, an outdoor toilet, cold water from
a brook, a kitchen with gas stove, common sleeping rooms with beds
equipped with a mattress, pillow, and a quilt.
