Day 3 : 12 September 1990, excursion to Viterskalet

Only one person slept well during the night, the one that snored. A drawback of sleeping in a hut. The late arrivers last evening will continue over Norra Sytertoppen, in clouds as it seems, i.e. they will not see anything. So why walk up there then, they have a slight hope that weather will improve. Everybody mind their own bussiness an leave. Well, our own plan is to walk up on Norra Sytertoppen as well, but we change it to walk up towards Sytertoppen. The more than 1700 meter high peak on the north side of the valley Syterskalet is hidden in clouds. After the morning coffee do we leave, without much hope for the weather to improve. We ford Syterbäcken downstream of Viterskalet. The slope up to the lake Måskosjaure in Viterskalet  is gentle, to the south do we have a nice view. We admire it during our lunch. Looking south, Syterbäcken
It does not take long time before we reach the lake Måskosjaure. The clouds are glued to the mountain slopes. There is no reason to continue further up. We walk around to see if we can find any flowers, but without any success. The temperature is three degrees, I have brought a thermometer, and we warm us with coffee. To make things even better does it start to rain as well. We take on the rain suits, finish the coffee, and start our way back. This time do we cross Syterbäcken at the proper place, somewhat upstream in Syterskalet. Much easier than at the place we choosed in the morning, though that was no problem either. It feels good to get back into the cabin, even better when we have got a fire in the stove. In the evening does a young couple with a dog arrive. We have a nice chat while the darkness arrive. It is still raining. Måskosjaure, Viterskalet
