Abisko 2015 - Going there
The journey there. Leaving a sunny Skåne by air, via a rainy Arlanda to Kiruna overcast. Bus to Abisko. Install ourselves at the Abisko tourist station. An evening stroll by the river Abiskojåkka.

July 8, 2015: The journey there.
Everything is done online nowadays. I'm trying to be old-fashioned but gives up. Book a flight, hostels, parking at Sturup, pay, checking in for the flight.

In the parking lot at Sturup is the vehicle registration read by the camera and out comes the parking ticket. Put me on the horn when I'll take it. Scares some walking nearby. It is heard that we arrived. Boarding pass and baggage tags are available from a vending machine. The security check is still staffed.

This is also the aircraft. Only the coffee is free nowadays. Leaving a sunny Skåne for a rainy Stockholm. Nice one should only change planes here. Switches flights to Kiruna. To an anvercast Kiruna.

From Kiruna airport departs a bus to Abisko. Do not see much of Kiruna. It is a beautiful bus ride along the Torne Träsk and mountains. The views are not appreciated. Most passengers are deeply engrossed in their phones. The road is being repaired. A long stretch of dirt road and guiding car.

Go half an hour late off at Abisko Turist. Get our booked rooms at the hostel Keron, room 104. Have no food, books place at the restaurant. Must book. Eat Suovas (reindeer) and a beer (Amber). Good. Then sit a while in the Brasrummet room and enjoying the view of Torne Träsk.

These are bright nights, the midnight sun. Go for an evening walk along the Abiskojåkka deep canyon. First south of the highway and then north to the footbridge over jåkken. Much water gushes out. Snow melting is late in this year. Still patches of snow on Nuolja. Annexe, which I lived in 1988, remains. STF's first building here. A heritage. In some places it has been set up observation platforms with sight tube directed towards interesting places. Information signs tell.
