Sarek - Gállaktjåhkkå ( Kallaktjåkkå )
Gallaktjåhkkåis a mountain area in Stora Sjöfallet
national park, north of the lake Ahkajavrre. Kungsleden, between Teusjaure
and Vakkotavare, pass just east of the mountains. Starting from Ritsem
do one walk on the road or the track towards Sitasjaure. North of the lake
Rijtsemjavratja don one take east, close to the shore of the lake, where
the osier give no problem to pass through. After that do one have comfortable
walk uphill to Jårmejavrre between
the peak (1592) and the hill Biervveda. One is heading towards the peak
(1592). As usual do one get quite a large height difference, from 500 to
about 1100 meters. The view back makes the effort less tiring. One have
a good view of the lakes in the north, with lake Avddajavri as the closest
one.
One walk beneath the slope of the peak (1592), north of the lake Jårmejavrre. In the front, towards southeast, do one have the mountain Rajvotjåhkå (1405). The ground is rather stony, but these are small stones spread out on the low growing grass. This makes the walking very easy. Snow fields stay for long and make the walk easier. One keep the heigth, 1100 meters, until one reach the highest point between Rajvotjåhkå and (1592). From here do one see the small lake (1060), in the north is Gallaktjåhkkå itself but the highest point (1810) is hidden . The best is to walk north of the lake (1060), else one has to ford the brook Rajvojåhkkå from the lake. Then one also get the opportunity to walk in and look up towards the glacier beneath the peak (1810) of Gallaktjåhkkå, though the peak is hidden from the view this far down. From now on do one get more and more of the view towards Sarek in the south, Rajvotjåhkkå has hidden it up to know. Where the brook Rajvojåhkå bend down to Ahkajavrre do one have a good view towards Sarek. Here are also good tenting sites. As one walk further east do one pass nice meadows with buttercops, and have the views towards Rajvotjåhkkå to the west and Ahkka in the southwest. One walk north of the lakes Mavgojavre, up on the smill hill (1054) on which there is a cairn. In the north are the gentle peaks of Varatjåhkkå (1570). All of this eastern part do not give any surprises, it offer good views and no obstacles neither for the sight or walking. From the slope eastward of the hill (1054) are good views towards Nieras and Rahpattjårro. Even here can the snowfields stay long into the summer. As one descend do the views of Gallaktjåhkkå disappear from the sight in the west, and the grass meadows becomes more prominent as one approach Kungsleden. These meadows offer perfect tenting places. |
